NEXT TEEN XBOX DAY SCHEDULED! Thursday, Oct 12 at 3:30!

WANT FREE COMPUTER SESSIONS?

Want to help us move some books in the library while earning free computer sessions for yourself? We’ll give you one free half hour session for every half hour you help us. The date for the big move will be announced soon. But if you are interested in helping us out, either post to the blog or let Bill or Jen know you would like to help.
Thanks!

Welcome Back! (and where did the couches go?)

We’re glad you’re back at the Branch Teen Room! It’s gonna be a great year, right? We have a teen meeting coming up on August 31…X-box, food and more!

I suppose you noticed the couches are gone! Here’s the deal. Someone has been cutting big slashes in the couches with a razor blade or knife. We put up signs last week warning that if it keeps up, the couches would be removed. Four new cuts showed up yesterday, so we are removing them…at least temporarily until the teen council can figure out what to do about it.

If anyone has any tips about who might be doing this to YOUR furniture, please tell Bill or Jen. The police have already been here investigating this criminal offense. If stuff like this keeps up, it could even force us to close the Teen Room! We realize it is probably one dummy who is doing this vandalism, so please let us know if you’ve heard anything.

In the meantime, welcome back…it’s good to see you here again!

Welcome Back Teens!

Hey,
Hope you all had a great spring break...we missed you. It was so quiet here! Look for upcoming announcement about an unpcoming Xbox day!
Thanks,
Bill
PS. Did anyone do anything fun for spring break. Post it if you did.

Thanks for waiting!

Hi Branch Teens!
Good news! We hired someone to take Bonnie's place and she will be here in a couple weeks, so soon we can get back to business as normal. Jen and I have been too busy lately to keep the teen meetings going, but soon they will resume. So watch for updates and meetings coming soon.
Thanks,
Bill

Runescape Tournament ideas...

Hey,
Another librarian sent me the post below and is looking for help and ideas about how we could compete against other libraries while playing Runescape. Here is his letter. Please post if you have answers or ideas.
Thanks,
Bill

A colleague and I are trying to figure out how to do Runescape tournaments between libraries.
If you are a Runescape player, I invite you to help us think through how to do this.
And/or ask your Runescape playing kids how they think this could be done?

For me, the issues/questions are:

- Where in the Wilderness should tournaments be held?

- Should free players and member players have separate tournaments? Are levels for free and members players the same? Or is there a difference between a free and member players at the same combat level?

- If tournaments are held in the free world so free members can participate, members can't use their powerful member only weapons. How will member players feel about that? (I believe members can't use member only weapons in the free world because if they could I would see member only weapons being used in the free world.)

- What should be given as prizes? I doubt I can get real stuff donated to give to kids in other states, possibly even other countries. I think prizes probably should be Runescape stuff. One way to collect prizes is to ask players to donate stuff or a certain amount of money. What do you think?

- How do we keep players from getting killed while they are waiting in the Wilderness to fight?

- If tournament fighting is two players at a time, waiting to fight could be intolerably long if we have 300 or 400 players. Should we have free-for-all between libraries? Should we insist that each library has a tournament at the library level and then enter a single champion for between library tournament?

- What should happen to the losing player's stuff? Should the winning player get it? Or should the stuff be picked up and returned to the losing player?

- Finally, how can people cheat? How can we prevent it?

Gaming Magazine? Which one???

What is your favorite gaming magazine? We might add one in the teen room and I'd like to know which are your favorites.
Thanks,
Bill

Hey,
Sounds like most people think Thursdays would be best for Xbox Tournaments. Please post or tell Bill or Jen if Thursdays DO NOT work for you.
Thanks,
Bill

Let Bill Borrow Halo or Halo 2????

Hey,
Anybody have an Xbox version of Halo or Halo 2 they would let me borrow for a day or two? Let me know. I have to try it out to see if it is cool enough for the Teen Room.
Thanks,
Bill

What's the best day for a DDR Tournament?

Post your ideas about what day of the week would work best to schedule a DDR tournament. Give me your vote for best day of the week and the best time of day. Also, would any of you like to schedule anything on a Saturday?
Thanks...Bill
PS. Just a warning...I will blow you all away at DDR!

Runescape is BAAAAAAAACK!

The Cool Kids Club met last week and decided to bring Runescape back. But we're bringing it back with the understanding that if it causes more trouble, it will be "Bye-bye Runescape FOREVER!" :)
Here are the new Runescape rules we all agreed upon...
Runescape Rules

By logging on to Runescape, you agree that you will abide by the following rules while at the Branch Library:
1.You will not steal other people’s passwords.
2.You will NEVER use anyone else’s computer time to play extra sessions of Runescape. You will only use your own card and any free sessions you may have earned.
3.You realize that if you break these rules, you run the chance of having Runescape permanently BANNED from the Branch Library FOREVER and if you do that, people might not like you anymore.
4.If you are caught breaking any of the above rules, you could lose either computer privileges or possibly even you library card, too.

Any comments?

Xbox games!

So far, we have Dance, Dance Revolution Ultramix, Tony Hawk's American Wasteland, and Forenzo Racing.
Any other games you guys would like or would be willing to share?

Our Xbox has arrived!

As promised, I did manage to get us an X-Box for our Teen Room! Actually, we will probably establish a game day where I will bring the X-Box into the room...and then we will also have special tournament days. If anyone has any ideas of how we can use the Xbox, post them here or let Bill know.
Special thanks to the Flagstaff Target store for kicking in $75 towards the Xbox. And the rest was paid for by a grant I got from Libraries for the Future and MetLife.
